Sally Plowman (b. 1997) is an artist living in London, UK. She makes mainly performance, sculpture, drawing and animation, re-working discarded objects to encourage play and reroute purpose. She focuses on collaborative working methods to think about looping, infinite failure, and the meaning of possession and use.
All of her work is informed by the connection, subversion and silliness of clowning and she performs in experimental clown duo ‘Plowman and Cummins’ with artist Cailin Cummins. They have performed around the UK and are interested in the use of props and costumes to undermine social roles. They use ridiculous to emphasise ridiculous, giving you the feeling of watching someone run for the bus as it drives away.
Sally Plowman and Nicola Streeten have just published ‘We Are Hungry: Vegan meals for eight hungry artists’ (Plowman Press, 2024), an illustrated cookbook. Based on meals cooked at The Grange Artist Residencies over the summer, this full-colour book is a collection of seven vegan meals to feed eight people. Available to purchase online here.
